الملخص

This study aimed to investigate the effect of a program based on the Theatre of the Oppressed on developing community peace among students of the College of Fine Arts at the University of Mosul. The program employed the techniques of the Theatre of the Oppressed to address selected social issues and promote the values of dialogue, cooperation, and acceptance of others. To achieve this objective, the study adopted an experimental approach using a pretest–posttest control group design.

The study sample consisted of 60 students who obtained low scores on the Community Peace Scale and were equally assigned to an experimental group and a control group. To measure the dependent variable, a Community Peace Scale comprising 46 items distributed across seven domains was developed. The scale’s face validity was established through expert review, while item discrimination indices were calculated. Reliability was verified using the split-half method with the Spearman–Brown formula, yielding a reliability coefficient of 0.82, and the test–retest method over a 17-day interval, producing a Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.76. A program based on the techniques of the Theatre of the Oppressed, consisting of seven theatrical performances, was then implemented with the experimental group according to a predetermined schedule. Data were analyzed using SPSS (Version 21), employing appropriate statistical procedures to examine the psychometric properties of the scale and test the research hypotheses.

The findings revealed no statistically significant differences between the pretest and posttest scores of the control group. In contrast, statistically significant differences were found in favor of the posttest scores of the experimental group, which also significantly outperformed the control group on the posttest. These findings confirm the effectiveness of the proposed program in developing community peace.
