Abstract

This study examines the subject of “Symbolic Features in the Drawings of Shawqi Al-Moussawi.” The research is structured into four chapters. Chapter One delineates the research problem, establishes its significance, and articulates the necessity of the study. The central research question is formulated as follows: What are the symbolic feature es manifested in the drawings of Shawqi Al-Moussawi? The significance of the study lies in its attempt to illuminate one of the most influential movements in modern art—the Symbolist School—through an analytical exploration of its diverse thematic and aesthetic dimensions. Furthermore, the research contributes to the field of fine arts by offering scholarly insight beneficial to specialists, researchers, and students within Art Education departments. The primary objective of the study is to identify and analyze the symbolic features present in Al-Moussawi’s drawings. This chapter also defines the scope of the research and clarifies its key terminologies.Chapter Two presents the theoretical framework, organized into three main sections. The first section examines the conceptual foundations of “feature” within artistic discourse. The second section explores the Symbolist trend in fine art, addressing its philosophical underpinnings and aesthetic characteristics. The third section provides an analytical overview of Shawqi Al-Moussawi’s artistic experience, contextualizing his work within broader symbolic and contemporary artistic practices.Chapter Three outlines the research procedures, including the research population, sampling method, research instrument, adopted methodology, and the analytical approach applied to the selected samples.Chapter Four presents the findings of the study. The results indicate that symbolism in Al-Moussawi’s works functions as an aesthetic and conceptual bridge linking collective memory (heritage) with contemporary individual inspiration. The chapter further includes the study’s conclusions, recommendations, proposed future research directions, and a comprehensive list of references and sources.
