This research addresses style in the art of stone painting as one of the contemporary artistic trends that employ natural materials in plastic expression. Stone is considered a material with unique technical and aesthetic characteristics that influence the construction of the artwork. The first chapter presented the research problem represented by the question: What is style in the art of stone painting? It also included the objectives of the research and its temporal limits (2000–2026) and spatial limits (the Middle East and Europe).
The second chapter discussed the concept of style and its relationship to the elements of the artwork and the factors affecting it. It also reviewed the emergence of stone painting, its development, types, techniques, and artistic implications, with examples of contemporary artists who employed stone within environmental art and postmodern arts.
In the third chapter, the study adopted the descriptive-analytical approach through the analysis of artistic models created by artists who used stone as an expressive medium in order to reveal their stylistic characteristics.
The fourth chapter showed that the nature of the stone material contributed to the formation of styles based on assemblage and mass construction, with a diversity of styles ranging from realism to abstraction and expressionism, alongside the use of rough textures and natural colors. The results also revealed the connection of this art form to contemporary human issues and its belonging to the context of environmental art and postmodern arts. The research recommended supporting this field artistically and academically and encouraging specialized studies in it.
